M is for Market!

A few months ago I was asked to contribute to an Alphabet Book project that Tools for Schools Africa is putting together for Ghanian school children. Each artist was assigned a letter and asked to create an illustration based on people, places, and things that the children of Ghana can recognize. I was given the letter M and asked to depict a market scene with a mango tree! It was so much fun to work on!

You can read more about this project (and see the other wonderful contributions) here. A big "Thank You!" to Mike Boldt for including me in this great project. Thanks for thinking of me, Mike!

And also thank you to everyone who visits this blog and leaves me comments. It really does mean so much to me. I have had a lot of requests for a paper tutorial, so I will try to work one of those up in the next few weeks. More to come soon!

So beautiful Brittney! I love it. Hey I bought my niece the Tangled book you illustrated for Christmas and told her all about how much I loved the artist who drew the book (she's 3). We read the book together later that day and she LOVED IT! I'm expecting my own baby girl in a few weeks, so I need to buy another copy! :) hehe

Oh and my husband bought me a Lagoon Love print for Christmas too! Which I was ECSTATIC about!! He is so good to me. It was a Brittney Lee Christmas for us! haha We're currently having Lagoon Love framed. And it inspired the color scheme for our redecorated living room space! haha

Thanks for this blog. I LOVE YOUR WORK SO MUCH!!!

I'm captivated by your chickens! It's amazing how much life and movement you can breathe into a static image.

And I'd also like to add my voice to the growing plea for a paper tutorial-- mostly because it means we'll get to see more of your paper art!

I love your papercutting skills. I was wondering if you knew of any other artists who paper cut/sculpt as well? I decided to make my AP art concentration in the paper family (inspired your works). I also decided to finally post a comment instead of sneakily adoring your stuff. I love the Ariel cut you did, did you ever find out who won? Thank you for being amazing!

I'm from the same neck of the woods (africa) and have always followed your blog. I feel compelled to comment this post because the illustration is amazing. Everything works, especially how you captured the interaction between the women (just like in the markets back home!) Your work is inspiring to me, thank you for sharing it- art student in london

Hi Brittney! I was in Richard Keyes' class today to hear your talk. I just wanted to say thank you for being so inspirational and motivating. It was great hearing your story about how you got started. I'm about to graduate and am quite scared but after listening to your talk, I feel like I really can do anything I want. So thank you for coming to talk and being so helpful and supportive!

I 2nd the comment above: I as well purchased the Tangled publication you contributed to.
What can you do when you have the free time? How about to get access to the online games? When we talk about the game, we need to talk about the WOW Gold? As the WOW is the world's most famous online game, all of us knows that we have to get the World Of Warcraft Gold to save money !

The silhouette test is really stunning -- it would be awesome to experiment with a series of designs intended to be in silhouette and glow like this! They'd be BEAUTIFUL!

Really beautiful the lighting is very nice. If you want me to be completely honest im not too sure about the abundance of watermelons everywhere, but hopefully no one will take it offensively. (there's more than just fruit at a market). no disrespect to you as an artist though the piece is beautiful i love it.
